Champagne, smiles, tears of joy… in the dazzling sunlight of this royal isle, the Principality welcomed our Princesses at the end of this marvellous adventure along France’s most stunning little roads. More than 1,600 kilometres of pure heavenly escape, plus five demanding motor sport challenges for both the drivers and the navigators. As the winners climbed the podium in front of the legendary rock of the Espace Fontvieille, each and every participant relived the extraordinary women’s-style week-long escapade. From Paris to Monaco, the memories blend together into a delicious cocktail, for which the girls are already thirsty to taste again next year! And while there is a strong sense of achievement and pride on the podium, it is quickly accompanied by a senses of frustration that they’ll have to wait twelve long months to relive the freedom and excitement of this one-of-a-kind event!
[image=19551] [image=19552]

The number 5 Mambo
As with Maud Garnier and Géraldine Doyen à in their 1948 Peugeot 202 convertible, Johanna and Pirkko Kiikka (Jaguar MK VII Sedan no. 5) deserve a special mention for their courage during this 13th Princesses Rally. Getting their mastodon to swallow the thousands of loop-de-loops from Paris to Monaco required major muscle and will power. It was a miracle that they were able to get such an old car to stick to all the rigour of the rules that govern a regularity rally like this. Congratulations ladies!

A thong-clad cyclist
A rather unusual sense of excitement infiltrated the ranks today as the Princesses attempted to focus on the morning’s first RT. Indeed, a cyclist wearing but a thong riding up the Maures in the opposite direction did not go unnoticed! At the end of the timed test, few of the competitors were thinking or talking about their scores.

La Martinique jusqu’au bout!
A PorMartinique all the way!sche 911, a charming team (Maryline Cassius de Linval and Sophie Reyhan) and a support crew of seven! To say the least, our friends from Martinique joined in great numbers to make the 13th Princesses Rally unforgettable for all. Our island sisters crossed the seas to their mother country to share a splendid week steeped in intense emotions. And they got what they came for.

The Pagode on the plateau
They started off with a record-breaking score of 1,958 penalty points during the very first day. The Americans Christine Schwarzman and Kalliope Karrella regrettably had to withdraw their marvellous Mercedes Pagode on the last connecting leg to Monaco due to a troublesome transmission..

Château Saint Martin: back to our roots
[image=19548]It has now become a tradition: the last leg of the Princesses’ Rally stops for lunch at the Château St-Martin, in Taradeau. And when you know that the owner of this fabulous vineyard was none other than the Count of Rohant-Chabot, creator of the Paris–Saint-Raphael Féminin, the Princesses’ predecessor, you can understand why it’s such a thrill to return here every year!

Tickling the Princesses’ taste-budssubtitle]
For our last lunch together, the Princesses who toured the Château Saint-Martin vineyard were invited to partake in a wine-tasting contest. The team with the most refined taste-buds will be awarded a special prize at the Gala Night celebration, held at the Fairmont Hotel in Monaco.

[subtitle]
Historic champs: round two for Zagato!
Another year, another win for Elisa-Noémie Laurent and Béatrice Bayle (Lancia Fulvia Zagato no. 13). Our two charming Princesses, already crowned last year, did it again. Does that mean there’s a third win on the horizon? Not necessarily since the runners up are all hot on their tails. Notably Valérie Rotrou-Bossart and Laetitia Trestard (Peugeot 205 T16) as well as Virginie Garcia and Anne-Valérie Bonnel (CG Coupé 1300) who share the podium with the daring duo.

Classic champs: 100% Morgan!
Already champs last year, Cathy Landrier and Catherine Dercourt (Morgan Tourer no. 50) confirmed their skills this year thanks to a remarkable final leg. In the lead for most of the previous legs, their final score put then 500 points ahead of Véronique Dupard and Mathilde Galouet (Morgan Plus 4/4). The proud Morgan mastermind, Françoise Mahul-Poncini, and ther teammate Véronique Padovani, complete the 100% Morgan podium!

Mixed champs: ditto, dejavu, double-header!
Precisely one year after celebrating their 10th anniversary together by winning the Princesses’ Rally, Estelle and François Gauthier (Triumph Spitfire no. 65), are at it again! Patrica and Gilles Ader (Porsche 911 Carrera no. 68) along with Corinne Kanafa and Olivier Rougé (Porsche 911 no. 69) take second and third place with equal satisfaction and pride.

Prestige champs: go girls go!
Christine Halliot and Isabelle Pesquié-Geday (Ferrari Maranello no. 80) also take a second crown, having won in 2010. Sophie Mahler and Véronique Blandin (Porsche 996 no. 83) along with Vanessa Debars and Marie Gauquelin (TVR no. 89) round up the list of winners in this delightful 2012 edition of the Princesses’ Rally.

A WORD FROM OUR PRINCESSES
Elisa-Noémie Laurent
(Fra/Lancia Fulvia Zagato no13):“Béatrice and I are tickled pink to have won the Historic category again. Last year we were much more stressed out. This time I even managed to snap a few photos during the connecting legs. Our next challenge will be to defend our title knowing how skilled and determined the rest of the competitors are, and how much progress they all make with each new mile. But we’ll need a different car because I promised to give this one back to mum – and that will be tough.”

Cathy Landrier
(Fra/Morgan Tourer no50): “After eeking out a victory last year, we set this year’s goal as finishing with the fewest penalty points possible. 260 is not bad, but we can do better! Our dream? Come back next year with a beautiful Historic car, but we’ll have to choose wisely to avoid getting stuck with extra points.”

Estelle Gauthier
(Fra/Triumph Spitfire no65): “Like to compare our scores not only to the other co-ed teams, but also to the other categories. And when we do, we find ourselves in third place overall. That means we did pretty well indeed!”

Christine Halliot (Fra/Ferrari Maranello no80): “I am truly delighted, because we had so much fun. The course was fabulous. The ambiance was terrific. And the frosting on the cake: we won! What more could you ask for? Oh yes, how could I forget... I’d like to do it all year long, at the wheel of this wonderful car!”

ob]Julie Gayet [/b](Fra/Peugeot 202 cabriolet n°1): “Mission accomplished. I’ve become a Princesses addict in just two days of driving. I had the time of my life with my friend, Sidonie Ferandi and our Peugeot 203 convertible. I’m already jotting it down in next year’s diary. I promise I’ll be back, with the same teammate!”

Maud Garnier (Fra/Peugeot 203 cabriolet n°3) : “This was an absolutely incredible experience. I’m frustrated not ot be able to go all the way to Monaco, but I must be in Paris tonight for the Koh Lanta finals (French TF1 TV reality). I truly hope we can come back next year because Géraldine and I learned a lot during this first time in the Princesses’ Rally.”

Viviane Zaniroli (Organisatrice): “I would like to thank all our sponsors for without their support, the Princesses Rally could not continue to bring such joy to so many great gals! And special thanks to Peugeot, whose considerable contributions make all the difference in the world. I would also like to congratulate all the Princesses who played the game from A to Z and kept the ambiance tip-top all week long. You’re your diaries one and all for next year’s fabulous 14th edition!”

Press Release #5 – Le Castellet, Thursday, May 31st – 4th Leg

My mother’s castle on my father’s road
The songs of crickets in the background and the blazing sun of Provence in the foreground made today picture perfect in every way! The 13th edition of the Princesses Rally left the tiny town of Le Rouret (in the Ardèche region) this morning and reached the famous Castellet circuit (in the Var) this afternoon. Our beauties (driving their beauties) revelled in this truly beautiful day. At midday, we took a break in the shade of the Château d’Estoublon’s charming Bistrot Mogador amidst the “Alpilles”. There, our godmother, the fabulous actress Julie Gayet joined us, straight from the Cannes film festival, to share the last two days of the rally at the wheel of her Peugeot 203 convertible.

The first are the last
In an effort to not always make the most modern cars arrive last, at lunch and dinner, the organizers decided to reverse the starting order for the last two legs of this year’s rally. So this morning, the Prestige category kicked things off, followed by the co-ed teams, the Classics and then the Historic vehicles.

The Austin gets tangled up
Rather emotional moment today for Valérie Carnet and Sylvie Zanin whose Austin Healey Sebring no. 53 got stuck in the middle of some vines and fruit trees during the day’s second RT. Playing the Good Samaritain, rally director, Patrick Zaniroli ducked under the hood to fix their electrical plug, rescuing the two damsels in distress.

The Cobra burst its radiator hose
Bad luck for Roahmy Machoir and Marine Cortot whose radiator hose burst on their AC Cobra Hawk 289 no. 24. After pushing their hot-rod over to the side of the road, they had to wait for the sweeper truck to pick them up, crossing fingers that the motor was not damaged by the ordeal.
[image=19534]

The Princesses… of Mogador.
Amidst the majestic setting of the Château d’Estoublon –Mogador our Princesses paused for lunch today. A trip down memory lane for those who used to watch the 1970s TV series, ‘People from Mogador’ starring Brigitte Fossey, Marie-France Pisier and Jean-Claude Drouot.

Like twin sisters
Adèle and Hortence Huchet du Guermeur are sharing a very unique experience. These two gals from Brittany are participating in their first rally and it’s like an absolute escape from their busy daily lives managing their seven children! With their father’s MG B no. 25, the two sisters are rediscovering the magic of their close ties built years ago.

No chrono for the Zagato.
Looking rather tense, totally focused in their Lancia Fulvia Zagato no. 13, Elisa-Noémie Laurent and Béatrice Bayle were faced with a trying moment of doubt during their second RT this morning. Their chronometre failed to star tat the beginning of the test! The 2011 winners of the Historic category spent several long minutes trying to solve the problem while continuing to navigate as best they could.

Maxi efforts for the Mini
A change in average speed during the afternoon, helped Carine Merle and Charlène Vallée (Austin Mini Cooper no. 17) win this leg in the Historic category, ahead of Marie-Christine Albertini and Isabelle Graulier (MGB no. 16). Among the Classic cars, it was Cathy Landrier and Catherine Dercourt (Morgan Tourer no. 50) who had the winning score on the Castellet circuit. Victory for the Kanafa/Rougé team (Porsche 911 SC no. 69) in the Co-ed category, whereas Sophie Mahler and Véronique Blandin (Porsche 996 4S no. 83) took first place in the Prestige group.

If only Castellet counted…
Not counted in the overall ranking, the Castellet circuit (soon to host another Formula 1 Grand Prix), set the stage for a few impressive performances by Princesses. One reconnaissance lap, one reference lap, two regularity laps and a final lap to exit: that makes five laps for each team on the famous Var race track. Once again, the Merle/Vallée team (Austin Mini Cooper no. 17) won this side event, making a double whammy

Happy birthday to you!
Two of our Princesses celebrated their birthdays yesterday. The rally organizers offered lovely floral bouquets to Isabelle Pesquie-Geday and Josiane Lambert as the rest of the group applauded the ladies of the hour

[image=19529] [image=19536]

A WORD FROM OUR PRINCESSES
Julie Gayet (Fra/Peugeot 203 Cabriolet no3):“I am very happy to join the Princesses Rally, of which I have been the official godmother for the past 4 years. It’s great to actually be able to participate. I deeply regret not having been able to come sooner but I had to be at the Cannes film festival’s closing ceremonies. When I arrived today, I was very impressed by the gorgeous cars and the determination of all these women. I too shall be diving into my first day of driving this splendid Peugeot 203 convertible with equal enthusiasm!”

[image=19533]
Maud Garnier (Fra/Peugeot 202 Cabriolet no1) : “Luckily Julie didn’t arrive sooner. Géraldine and I wouldn’t have been able to explain all the ins and outs of this unique sport. Today, on the other hand, we’ve got a much better handle on things. And I hope we’ll do a good job on at least one challenge before the end of this event."

Vanessa Debars (Fra/ TVR no89) :“We planned on entering our second Princesses’ Rally together at the wheel of a Jaguar Type C. But we burned the breaks before even reaching Paris. So we decided to stick with out TVR. We’re thoroughly enjoying our lead position in the Prestige category, although the Historic category corresponds better to our vision of this rally. The Castellet race track is certainly a thrill in our TVR! ”

Laetitia Trestard (Fra/ Peugeot 205 T16 no4) :[/b]
“Today was yet another glorious day. We finished 7th in 2010 and today we’re in 2nd place. Our goal is to hold our position, knowing that anything could happen, including victory in the end, although Elisa-Noémie and Béatrice who are in the lead in the Historic category, won’t let down their guard for a single minute!”

Cathy Landrier (Fra/Morgan Tourer no50):“With 15 points, I think we’ve just pulled off our best score since the start of this rally. Having won our category, Catherine and I must face the challenge of winning again. For now, we’re leading the Classics line-up. Crossing fingers for tomorrow when we pull into Monaco!”

Annie Robilliard (Fra/Porsche 997 Carrera no81):“Our only onboard instrument is an iPhone! And today we only racked up 300 points. Pretty impressive, don’t you think?”

Nadia Jonchere (Fra/Porsche 911 Carrera no82) :“We were expecting a more laid-back rally, but we’re quite taken with the competitive spirit and technical focus. Next year we’ll be back and better prepared!”
Press Release #4 – Le Rouret, Wednesday, May 30th – 3rd Leg

As they pulled out of Vichy and headed for the Ardeche region, the teams competing in this 13th edition of the Princesses rally climbed their first winding roads up the Auvergne foothills, through floral pastures and breathtaking landscapes. More than 350 kilometres of pure bliss that, following a picturesque country luncheon in the verdant Marliou area, brought them straight to the Chavade and Pendu Passes, after savouring the wild and enchanting National Park where a bright yellow blanket of leafy broom (Cytisus) was spread out in welcome ... more

When they arrived in the tiny town of Le Rouret, the whole caravan indulged in a well-earned rest!
…

A Matra turned into a Lancia Thema
Everyone knows that Princesses have fairy godmothers who looks out for her best interests. And for Nicole Laurent and Catherine Aufauvre, pixiedust did the trick last night. Faced with the problem of an overheated Matra 530 yesterday, the team was able to leave the Parc des Sources driving a fabulous Lancia Thema delivered by a chivalrous prince charming… That’s just part of this rally’s legendary magic!
[image=19527]

The boisterous CG
The bright yellow CG Coupe 1300 number 15 has stood out since the start of this rally. And this morning was no exception: the noise booming from the Cantal region was up a notch today due to a muffler problem which a sound like a fire-cracker parade every time Virginie Garcia and Anne-Valérie Bonnel drove by.

Gentle reminder for the Pagode
The other mother-daughter team, Monique Rombouts and Alexandra Ryan, are enjoying this rally 200%. The only challenge is for 100% British Alexandra to remember to drive on the right side of the road in a car with a driver’s wheel on the left! So to help her stay on track, she put big red stickers on the windscreen marked L and R. Cute, isn’t it?

Beautiful beginnings for the Ondine
For their first go at the Princesses’ Rally, Laurence Herfeld and Isabelle Christner (Renault Ondine no. 12) surprised all the spectators. And even if the third didn’t meet their expectations, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the Strasbourg team was among the first to arrive in Monaco two days from now.
[image=19525]

An ace on the horizon for the Levouedecs?
Marie-Claire Levouedec and her mum, Jacqueline, are celebrating their seventh Princesses Rally. Always in the lead pack, but never in the top spots, our two “regulars” have set their sights on the winner’s podium this year. And it’s looking good for them this time around!

Jaguar flies off without further ado
Literally thrilled with the repairs made by the rally’s mechanics on their impressive Jaguar MK VII no. 5 last night, the Finish team, Pirrkko and Johanna Kikka, felt like they had sprouted wings. They were so eager to get going that they didn’t even finish their breakfast and rushed off without stopping in at the check point! Oops…

Mini punished for speeding
After keeping a perfect pace all the way from the Invalides, Carine Merle and Charlène Valllée were poised to land a perfect score during this third leg of the rally. But then they realized they had made a mistake when calculating their average speed on the day’s last RT. They came in at a steady 45 km/h and yet the course was to be run at 40km/hr so they were slapped with heavy penalty points.

A WORD FROM OUR PRINCESSES
Maud Garnier (Fra/Peugeot 202 no1): “We’re continuing to pursue our challenge of driving the oldest car in this year’s rally. Every minute and every mile is tricky because even during the connecting legs, we’re not able to maintain the 50 km/h average speed. So you can imagine how hard it is to master the RTs, the winding roads and the steep inclines! Sometimes we wish we could pedal along to help. But we still enjoy the wonderful ambiance. Many thanks once again to Peugeot for offering us the incredible opportunity!”

Jovanaka Sopalovic (Aut/Peugeot 204 n°2): “It’s quite simple, with a total of 29 points today, I think we’re close to second place for this leg! I’m truly delighted, because Florence and I did a good job and everything went smoothly. Compared to the 300 points we racked up yesterday, that’s pretty good progress, don’t you think?”

Caroline Delaplace (Fra/Ferrari Testarossa no36) : “After a day off due to car trouble, we’re back in the saddle and rearin’ to go! The car is running well now and I think we may have even managed some interesting scores. The Princesses Rally is really a great week-long getaway which I strongly recommend to all women!”

[image=19526]Laurence Herfeld (Fra/Renault Ondine no12): I got the idea of participating in the Princesses Rally 4 years ago when I happened upon the big departure from Place Vendôme during a visit to Paris. Ever since then, plans have been in the making. I had to find the right car and the right teammate. This year, everything fell into place. We gave the Renault Ondine a tune-up and new tyres but left all the rest of the original parts, and it’s doing wonderfully well! We’ve made steady progress ever since the beginning of the rally. I must admit that Isabelle and I are having a great time. The training workshop helps considerably. It’s all truly wonderful! ”

Marie-Claire Levouedec (Fra/Austin Healey no10) : “For our 7th go at this, our sponsor reminded us that the winner’s podium does not have ten spots. So this year’s goal is clear, even if the most important aspect remains the pleasure of spending quality time together!”

Virginie Garcia (Fra/ CG Coupé 1300 S no15): “Our car is riding on a bum wheel. It’s making a terrible racket and it’s losing a lot of power. We even had to push it to get it going after the CPs. I do hope we’ll be able to fix it.”

Alexandra Ryan (G-B/Mercedes Pagodes 250 SL no20) : “I had been dreaming of participating in the rally for a long time. My mother signed us up for the Princesses Rally and I must admit that was one of the best ideas she has ever had. We’re making the most of each and every moment. My parents have already participated in several rallies, but this is my first. Papa set us up with a terrific car. And this is the first time in nearly twenty years that I’ve spent alone time with my mum. What a treat!”

Christiane Bugnon (Sui/Alfa Roméo Giulietta no11) : “We’re thoroughly enjoying our 3rd Princesses’ Rally. There’s a very high level of skill involved this year, the cars are gorgeous and all the teams are delightful.”

Nadia Moreau (Fra/ Triumph TR3 no8):): “We’re experiencing a fairy tale, come true! My Parisian friends who had already participated in this event recommended we try it ourselves. My husband financed the project. He bought the car last March and the rest fell into place rather quickly. So although we need to make quite a bit of progress still, particularly in maintaining the average speeds, the views are spectacular!”
Mazes, Mirages and Marvels

As we left the Indre and headed for the Allié, our Princesses took in a breakfast show, a strong wake-up call in the Berri countryside’s maze, and a whole new scenery in the foothills of Auvergne. Tiny, winding roads weave their way through a breathtaking landscape under the blazing sun. This 2nd leg of the 2012 Princesses’ Rally is definitely not lacking in romanticism. The proof was on the smiling faces of all the participants as they drove into the car park at Vichy Springs, in the heart of this famous thermal spa town..

A morning laced with hairpins
No time to dawdle this morning. Just barely out of Les Dryades hotel’s car park, the teams dove head first into a particularly eye-opening regularity test. Tricky navigation and challenging terrain, particularly for the big Jaguar MK VII and the Mustang whose teams had to make several maneuvers to get round the hairpin turns, creating a few traffic jams here and there.

The Testarossa waits a shift… back into action
Yesterday, they were delighted to discover the magic of the Princesses’ Rally. But today, Caroline Delaplace and Isabelle Poitout had to face a harsh reality: their fabulous black Ferrari had a faulty gear box. As a result, they spent the day by the wayside with the assistance crew waiting for their Italian beauty to be repaired.

[image=19500]

The Matra’s parched.
Stopped by the side of the road after the day’s second RT, Nicole Laurent and Catherine Aufauvre (Matra 530 LX) searched desperately for some water to cool their over-heated engine. They ended up using a garden hose from a local resident’s yard to fill their container and head back out again, safe and sound. A few miles down the road, they also quenched their thirst at Saint-Alban springs, after a quick stop at the nearby garage.

The trail of mirages.
The route chosen for the day’s second RT winds through the mountainous Bourbon region. Nick-named the trail of mirages, several competitors got caught in its many hidden traps, including Florence Migraine-Bourgnon and Jovanka Sopalovic in their Peugeot 204 (no. 2), who, like others, actually missed the exit!

Saint-Alban celebrates a happy homecoming.
The love story between Saint-Alban-les-Eaux and the Princesses’ Rally has lasted more than a decade. It all started when the Belgian, Jacques Heymans, jump-started the local bottling industry after building Europe’s most high-performance factory here some 15 years ago. Participating in the Princesses’ Rally with his partner Martine Lievens, Jacques now rediscovers the joy of visiting his home away from home. At noon, he and all the participants were welcomed by a boisterous band and the wonderful water-town’s mayor, Paul Chantelot. What a great way to wet everyone’s appetites before a sumptuous luncheon in the shady glade of the Petit Prince restaurant. A fairytale come true!

[image=19499]

Hip, hip, hourah for Maud and her fan club!
At every stop along the way, fans cheer and gather round the little Peugeot 202 convertible with the lucky number 1 on its door. Maud Garnier willingly plays to the crowd of Koh Lanta enthusiasts, giving out autographs and posing for pictures, with a smile on her face and skip in her step at all times.

When the Zagato rebels
The reigning champions in the Historic category, Elisa-Noémie Laurent and Béatrice Bayle (Lancia Fulvia Zagato no. 13) earned a double-header today, taking first place not only for this leg but also for the overall ranking. In the Classic category, it’s a second straight win for the Landrier/Dercourt (Morgan Tourer no. 50) duo. And on the Prestige side, Sophie Mahler and Véronique Blandin (Porsche 996 4S no. 83) landed the title of today’s champions. In terms of the co-ed teams, Estelle and François Gauthier (Triumph Spitfire no. 65) made the most of the Lievens/Heymans (Dino Ferrari 246 GT S no. 66) couple’s temporary distraction to sneak into the overall lead

[image=19502]

Martine went to bat for our Princesses
The enthusiasm of the entire Peugeot crew, official sponsors of the Princesses Rally, is a real treat. Even Martine Pradignac, manager of this event for the lion-hearted brand, bent over backwards today in an attempt to find a spare odometer for Florence Migraine-Bourgnon and Jovanka Sopalovic’s Peugeot 204 convertible. In her quest, she visited no less than 9 garages across the entire Roanne region. Regrettably to no avail. But it’s the thought that counts, n’est-ce pas?

Bertaud Belieu steps up to the plate
Now a genuine tradition, Bertaud Belieu wines once again sponsor the Princesses, providing a well deserved libation each evening during the ‘debriefing’ session. The fruit of the finest vines, a distinct climate and rich soil, these reds, whites and rosés from Saint-Tropez’s talented neighbours continues to impress our discerning Princesses

Dr. Pierre Ricaud, to ease the pain
Trailblazer of anti-aging treatments, Dr. Pierre Ricaud’s research labs decided to rally behind the Princesses this year. To help our beauties look and feel great every mile of this extraordinary trail, the experts in young skin are offering them an essential care product each and every night in their rooms.

A WORD FROM OUR PRINCESSES
[image=19506]
Maud Garnier (Fra/Peugeot 202 no1): “With a Tripmaster, it’s a whole different game! Many thanks to the Peugeot team and all the mechanics who worked so hard to find us this little gem, which enabled us to have a perfect day. The regions we’ve explored so far were truly sublime. We’re really enjoying the whole regularity aspect and all the spectators crowded along the roadsides and in the little villages are delighted as well.”

Elisa-Noémie Laurent (Fra/Lancia Fulvia Zagato no13):“We are very competitive. When we won last year’s Princesses’ Rally, everyone asked if we’d come back to defend out title, and that’s precisely what we’ve come here to do, with the same enthusiasm and enjoyment as ever. Our primary competitors lost quite a few points today. But the road to Monaco is still rather long and anything could happen…”

Karine Hoche (Fra/Ford Mustang Fastback no19) : “It’s really gorgeous. This is the first time we’ve participated in the Princesses’ Rally and Christelle and I are having such fun. The landscape is simply enchanting and even if our Mustang is not well adapted to this kind of race course, it’s totally engaging. Since our car was not ready until just two days before the event, we arranged to have a Porsche as back-up, but hoped we wouldn’t need to use it.”

Marine Devos (Fra/AC Bristol Bex 344): “We have literally fallen under the spell of this Princesses’ Rally. We got a little lost in the wilderness, but it’s so beautiful thus far that it’s an absolute joy. The car is running like clockwork and everything is smooth as a whistle for now. The ambiance is great and all the other teams are charming. This experience corresponds 100% to everything we’d imagined.”

Palaces, Castles and Princesses
[image=19491] Hitting the road to adventure in practical order from the Invalides this morning, the competitors in this 13th edition of the Princesses’ Rally offered onlookers a majestic parade amidst the most sumptuous Parisian palaces. It was as if the streets of this capital city were reserved just for them on this Pentecostal holiday bathed in sun. Heading south to the shores of the Loire for our first regularity test (RT) in Semainville where all the novices could immediately hone their newly developed skills in this somewhat exacting discipline. And if some teams lost a bit of their Latin, overall this first day of driving was a delight for the prestigious caravan as it wound its way through the heart of the Berry region, home of Georges Sand. So with a smile on their faces, all the Princesses retired for the night in their royal quarters at the Hôtel Les Dryades, where luxury and romanticism come together in a truly idyllic setting…

When you love someone, you don’t count!
For Maud and Géraldine, our two Koh Lanta heroes, this first leg of our regularity race got off to a rocky start. The first to leave the Invalides this morning at the wheel of their 1948 Peugeot 202 convertible bearing the illustrious number 1, our adventure-loving friends ran into several difficulties trying to get out of the capital and reach the first RT. The reason being a problem with their mileage counter. Add to that a few challenges with their engine, quickly remedied by their support crew, and you’ll understand why our leaders were among the last to arrive in Pouligny Notre-Dame at the end of the day!
[image=19492]

A glass of bubbly Tsarine at the finish line
The 13th annual Princesses’ Rally’s official champagne sponsor, Tsarine a glass of the golden nectar to each competitor to cap off this first leg of the event. A well-deserved reward at the end of a rather trying day.

Out of fuel, family style
Valérie and Barbara, one of the many mother-daughter teams in this year’s rally, shared a rather eventful day. After grappling with a few hesitations regarding the road book, they ran out of fuel on the connecting leg between the RT3 and the RT4, stopping their gorgeous red Porsche 356 (no.14) dead in its tracks. Luckily an assistance crew passing by at the time fixed them up in no time flat by towing their unlucky car to the nearest service station for a refill.

Finnish enthusiasm
For Johanna and Kaanna Kiikka, our two Nordic beauties, and their majestic Jaguar MK VII Sedan, this first day went quite smoothly indeed. Taking advantage of her mother’s experience, Kaanna did her best to master the potential of this royal carriage along the winding roads. Every inch of the way their smiles and enthusiasm reflected the spirit of this Princesses’ Rally.

A Mini in a dead-end
Carine Merle and Charlène Vallée didn’t go unnoticed. They not only opted for a splendid little Austin Morris Mini Cooper S, but they also shared the freshness of their ongoing learning curve in the art of regularity. Their main topic of conversation at the finish line, at the end of the day in Pouligny Notre-Dame? Their mishap in a cul-de-sac… at the end of a private residential road.

[image=19494] [image=19495]

Victory signed by Z1
Maryse and Adeline Vareon (BMW Z1 no. 39) were the winners of this first leg in the Historic category. With 27 penalty points, the mother-daughter duo was just one point ahead of Elisa-Noémie Laurent and Béatrice Bayle (in their Lancia Fulvia Zagato no. 13), the winners of last year’s rally, and 12 points ahead of the Peugeot 205 T16 driven by Valérie Rotrou Bossart and Laetitia Testard, who complete the preliminary winners’ podium. A brilliant victory in this first leg for the co-ed category by the Belgian couple Lievens/Heymans (Ferrari 246 GTS no. 66). For the Classic category, it was Cathy Landrier and Catherine Decourt (Morgan Tourer no. 50) who came in first place, whereas in the Prestige category, Christine Halliot and Isabelle Pesquie-Geday (Ferrari Maranello 575G no. 80) lead the pack at the end of this first leg.

Priority goes to the… ‘hair-do’
Christine Schwarzman and Kalliope Karella (Mercedes 280 SL no. 26) are just discovering the Princesses’ Rally. Our charming Americans are not out to prove anything. “If we have a lot of points, we’ll have more time to do our hair in the morning…” Mission accomplished for team USA, who racked up a whopping 1953 penalty points and therefore earned a lackadaisical departure after 9am tomorrow for the second leg of this fun-loving adventure.

A WORD FROM OUR PRINCESSES
[image=19490]

Elisa-Noémie Laurent(Fra/Lancia Fulvia Zagato no13):
“Yesterday, during verifications, we removed our car’s steering wheel. And today I could feel it was a bit loose. I admit there were times I had doubts. This afternoon we were delayed several times by competitors who left the starting blocks before us. But that’s how it is the first day. Tomorow we will be in another group and thus moving at a better pace.”

Pirkko Kaanna Kikka (Fin/Jaguar MK VII Sedan no5):
“My mother-in-law is my teammate and she has quite a bit of experience in this type of rally. She has already participated in several similar events, in various parts of the world. And this is my second time around. It’s really wonderful, even if the regularity game is rather tricky. I do hope that our big, beautiful car will be able to manoeuvre along the tiny country roads through this lovely country of France.”

Maud Garnier (Fra/Peugeot 202 Cabriolet no1):
“This was truly a day for learning our lessons, and coping with challenges this morning. But in the end, despite the handicap accrued during the first two RTs, the day’s conclusion wasn’t too bad. Géraldine and I have adjusted well and I even caught myself by surprise adopting certain reflexes in reading the road book and calculating average speeds. So I think that as of tomorrow morning, things should be running more smoothly.”
Amidst the blazing summer sun, our royal cavalcade found solace in the shady gardens of the Esplanade des Invalides. The 65 teams enrolled in 13th Princesses Rally initiated the ritual of the technical and administrative verifications, an essential preliminary step for any major rally. With a breathtaking view of the Grand Palais and the elegant Pont Alexandre III, the teams all took advantage of this majestic setting to fine-tune their stylish chariots. The night before heading south along the charming roads of this annual ladies motor sport highlight was also a great opportunity for hundreds of automobile fans to admire the extraordinary line-up.

Peugeot shows off its museum treasures
The official sponsor of the Princesses Rally for the second consecutive year, the famous lion took advantage of this opportunity to showcase its 200 series in honour of the 208’s big debut. A 202, a 203 and a 204, all convertible models fresh out of the Peugeot museum, provide a stunning retrospective of this remarkable series. In addition, the French automobile manufacturer provided all the vehicles for the organisational team, with an array of styles from the 807 to the 3008 HYbrid4, as well as a 5008, sporty version of the RCZ, a 308CC convertible and the new 508 RXH.

A thirst for adventure, of all kinds…
With Maud Garnier, finalist in the ‘Heroes’ Revenge’ and Geraldine Doyen, participant in the first edition of the Koh Lanta in Thailand in 2001, this year’s Princesses Rally has at least two genuine adventure-lovers in its line-up. These two good friends embark on this adventure with a smile and enthusiasm at the wheel of their Peugeot 202 convertible tagged with the legendary #1. Beware, the pressure is on!

Tsarine for the Princesses
A golden sponsor for golden gals, the Tsarine brand artfully combines three types of grapes from the champagne region to toast the bubbliest of refinement. The Chanoine House is particularly proud to support the Princesses’ Rally, with which it shares the same values: femininity, exceeding one’s limits, team spirit, and a taste for the finer things in life. Each team was invited to taste this sublime nectar, exquisitely presented in a totally unique, curvy bottle.

Ten nationalities at the starting line
The array of Princesses enrolled in the 13th edition of this ladylike rally is a direct reflection of its increasingly international flavour. With ten different nationalities represented at the starting line, France’s biggest women’s motor sport event is already breaking records. Among the most exotic teams, kindly note the Finnish team of Johanna Helena and Pirkko Kaanna Kiikka in their impressive Jaguar MK VII Sedan.
[image=19485]

Fabulous bodies
The play on words is fitting as we all know that Princesses always ride in the most exquisite carriages, and this is no exception! This year’s cars are as lovely as the ladies onboard. Besides the series of 200’s (202, 203 and 204 convertible) straight from the Peugeot museum, you can feast your eyes on the 1957 AC Bristol Bex 344, a superb 1957 BMW 507 coupé, a few Mercedes Pagodes, a 1965 MG B, an AC Cobra Hawk from the same year, three Jaguar Type E from the 1960’s and an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible. Add to that six Morgans, including a rather original 4/4 1800 V6 Roadster, and the latest Ferrari Maranello, Porsche Boxter, 911 Carrera convertible and a 968 Cabriolet along with a Rolls Royce Corniche and you’ll start to see why this year’s line-up is a dream-come-true for all our Princesses.

Courteous Princesses
As sponsors of the Princesses’ Rally, the “Association Française de Prévention des Comportements sur la route” (AFPC) decided to make each team honorary ambassadors of good road manners asking them to demonstrate their worthiness throughout all six legs of this rally from Paris to Monaco.
[image=19488]

Jack Russel Malletier, a Princesses exclusive
A limited edition, elegant pink pocketbook branded with the Princesses’ Rally logo is just one of the many gifts offered to the princesses today during the administrative verifications in the sumptuous Grand Salon at the Hôtel des Invalides, by one of the rally’s many wonderful sponsors, Jack Russel Malletier Paris.

A WORD FROM OUR PRINCESSES
Viviane Zaniroli (head organiser): “This glorious day at the Invalides sets the stage for a truly exceptional rally. With a fabulous line-up of cars beyond compare and driven by highly motivated crews, this 13th edition proves once again that the Princesses’ Rally is indeed THE women’s motor sport event not to be missed under any circumstances. All the ingredients for an unforgettable treat have been brought together to ensure a week of excitement and bliss at every stage of the game. Here’s to the most beautiful Princesses and the most beautiful cars and the most beautiful roads through France. Wishing you all the best of luck!”

[image=19487]
Maud Garnier (Fra/Peugeot 202 Convertible no1): “This is truly a wonderland experience! Géraldine and I are delighted to be part of the Princesses’ Rally’s starting line-up. It will be quite a challenge for us as we’re just beginners in this discipline. But we’re winners through and through and we’re determined to share a memorable week in every way!”

Maria Aram (Aut/Mazda MX-5 no86): "This is my third Princesses’ Rally and frankly, I’m back for the ambiance and the extraordinary journey that enables us to rediscover over and over France’s enchanting landscape. This year, we even decided to sponsor the rally with our business, Levault Paris. Our jewellery, made with real orchids sheathed in 24 carat gold, is presented to all the Princesses and offered as prizes for the Lucky winners in Monaco.”

Cindy Jaffre-Piete (Fra/Morgan Plus 4 no48): [/b“This is the first time I’ve ever participated in this rally, and I admit that I’m here because my teammate convinced me to go out on a limb and join in this one-of-a-kind adventure. Good sport, a convivial atmosphere, discoveries and luxurious leisure: what more could you ask for?”

[b]Chantal Postic (Fra/Porsche 997 Carrera 4S Cab no81): “We’re here to experience a moment of pure pleasure and an absolute change of pace, both in terms of the scenery and the fun that are famed for spicing up each stage of this exciting adventure. I’m very excited to discover the illustrious Princesses’ Rally.”
Competing in her Fiat X 1/9, Geneviève Dumas is none other than the mother of Romain Dumas, the 2010 winner of the legendary LeMans 24-hour road race.

This is Geneviève’s first go at the Princesses Rally but she and her teammate Nicole Ravi faired rather well in this unforgettable 6-day event. Despite a few navigational challenges getting out of Paris, the team, straight from the Gard region of France, settled comfortably into the ranks!…

Geneviève Dumas (Fra/Fiat X 1/9 No.35) :
[image=19561] "My husband and I are well acquainted with Historic Vehicle/Classic Car events. But when I heard about the Princesses Rally, I thought it would be interesting to share this kind of adventure amongst women. My teammate, Nicole, is totally new to this whole game and we immediately ran into a bit of trouble with the high level of skills needed to ensure effective navigation, which apparently I had underestimated. I was expecting something much more laid back. But in the end I was not disappointed because I love stiff competition.

We travelled through gorgeous scenery. Naturally, as we reached the South of France, I started to recognize the roads, particularly those of the Var Rally. This was truly a wonderful experience. We laughed a lot. There was a terrific ambiance. And now, our little mistakes have turned into excellent memories. This is a rally I’d very much enjoy doing again!"
